wind, shoes or ....?

I do most of my runs early in the morning, out the door well before first light. Warm up consists of walking a mile in the dark down to the nearby neighborhood park. Most times my mind is in a fog like state as journey there. Today was no different but about 2/3 of the way on a steeper section my shoes suddenly forced my path off the sidewalk and onto the grassy strip that borders the street. For a moment felt as if was going to fall and I quickly looked around to make sure someone did not give me a push. Decided it must have been the wind as the trades were blowing and then thought well could have been my new fangled shoes which do seem to have a propulsion power all their own. For a second or two wondered if Menehune were nearby but even if they were why would they waste effort on dis ol man.

The sensation felt was that of moving forward out of control very similar to what used to feel when my kayak would catch a small wave just right. Frightened, thrilled, relief, joy. All and all one more experience to keep motivated to keep on running - or at least walking to get there. And one more reminder that despite a lack of control over most everything to live in this beautiful valley whose residents claim Menehune are out and about is as awesome as awesome gets.
